For years there's been debate about workstation cards being better because they're more accurate and "have better driver support". ![]() This means that gaming-class graphics cards have a much better price/performance ratio than the workstation-class graphics cards. Personally I've found 4-cores to be a good balance and they're the most common number of cores you'll find in the Intel i line.Īutocad and inventor use DirectX as the graphics engine. Obviously the overall system performance will be snappier with more cores and if using an i5 or higher there are other process other than Autocad running at the same time. For more complicated 3D work I'd recommend over 3Ghz & i5 or i7. I'd say for 2D or simple 3D work a 2.5Ghz minimum i5 is fine (might be a little sluggish at times with many xrefs or layouts). Since autocad is mostly single-threaded, fewer cores with a higher clock speed is generally more economical than a greater number of cores with a high clock speed. The tier of hardware will depend a bit on if he plans on doing 2D & basic 3D, or involved and complicated 3d work.
